Reading...

Picked up Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows this afternoon, one day after the rush, and have been reading since early evening. On page 477, so should finish tonight. I have no idea how it turns out. I've read most of the HP books, and wasn't particularly aiming to read this one, at least so soon. I actually thought well, once Saturday passes, I'll look at some spoilers and find out how it all ends. But I didn't and there it was in the store, and here I am, reading like a fiend. What a wonderful feeling !

Enjoy, Cordelia. I think you'll find it a satisfying conclusion to the series.

There was a rockstar-scale author event last year where John Irving, Stephen King, and JK Rowling (in that order) all read and chatted to a packed Radio City Music Hall in Rockefeller Center. I can't remember specifics except that King entered amidst strong backlighting and dry ice fog (all tongue in cheek maybe). They were all pretty decent. In order of charisma and speaking skills I would rank them King, Irving , Rowlings. Rowlings was very new to the whole thing and by comparison to the other two, just seemed like an audience member who had suddenly been propelled to the stage. Although, too, we all felt the dramatic knowledge that JKR was gestating the futures of Harry et al even as she spoke to us, that a whole world was in flux in her mind. It's her world and she is the god. So had this weird feeling of meeting a deity or something.
